MORE Fun things to do for around R50 (or less!)

With so much on offer in these beautiful cities I couldn’t resist adding some more fun and financially-friendly activities before everyone goes back to reality (also known as work). So here are some MORE fun things to do for R50 (or less!) in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban:

CAPE TOWN

Walk or Climb to the top of Table Mountain (Free)
Table Mountain is without a doubt the most recognised feature in Cape Town. Most visitors make use of the cable car, but it's worth walking or climbing to truly appreciate the grandeur of the mountain. My only advice would be to choose a route that suits your fitness/skill level (some can be quite tough!).

Market at the Old Biscuit Mill (Free)
The Saturday market held at the Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock is a feast fit for a king as well as a showcase of local creativity and festivity. Grab a hay bale and relax with some drinks and a plate full of delicacies. You can find out more at: theoldbiscuitmill.co.za

The Company Gardens (Free)
The Company Gardens is a botanical garden which is open to the public and frequented by locals working within the heart of the CBD during lunch times. It features a rose garden, Japanese garden, fish pond and aviary. Feeding the squirrels is a common pastime in the Gardens.

Butterfly World (R65 per adult R37 per child)
Butterfly World has one of the most amazing collections of butterflies in the country. They import 500 - 800 butterfly pupae per week, all year round! Having hundreds of butterflies flittering about your head will leave you with a sense of awe. The price is slightly more than R50, but you get discounts for groups. For more visit: butterflyworld.co.za

JOHANNESBURG

Bryanston Organic and Natural Market (Free)
Johannesburg’s original outdoor market has been running in the northern suburbs for over 30 years and boasts a marvellous collection of natural and organic products. You can find everything from hand-crafted jewellery to coffee to homemade sauces. There is also entertainment for children to ensure that the entire family is catered for. The market runs on Thursdays and Saturdays 9.00 am to 3.00 pm as well as on public holidays. Visit: bryanstonorganicmarket.co.za

Die Boekhuis (Free)
This is a perfect escape for bookworms and has been named in the top 50 most unique book shops in the world by the International Booksellers Federation. Whether you want a good read or would just like to enjoy a cup of coffee in a peaceful and amazing location - it's up to you.

Montecasino Bird Gardens (R25-R45 per person)
Hosting 142 different species of birds as well as the largest private collection of African cycads, families and nature lovers alike will enjoy this outing. The Flight of Fantasy bird show is also worth checking out and only takes half an hour. Visit: montecasino.co.za

Learn about our universe and the stars in our skies at this informative outing. The Planetarium attracts thousands of visitors each year, why not visit and see why it has become such a popular attraction. For more info visit: http://www.planetarium.co.za/

DURBAN

Walk through Umgeni River Bird Park (R25 per person)
Surrounded by green vegetation and waterfalls as you walk through aviaries, this bird park has delighted visitors for years. Open daily from 09h00 to 17h00 - if you are in Durban this is a must-see.

Take a ride in a Rickshaw (From R20)
The iconic "taxi service" of the Durban beachfront, climb in and hold onto your hat as you allow one of Durban's locals to take you on an enjoyable ride down the promenade.

Visit the Durban Natural Science Museum (Free)
Dedicated to the earth, past and future, this museum holds its collections in the interior of Durban City Hall. See the heritage of the world in the many displays and come face to face with a life-size reconstruction of a Tyrannosaurus-Rex. To find out more visit: durban-tourism.com
